What If you could…

Accept it people. While we pretend to go on with our supposedly happy lives, deep down we all have this thought that whispers in our ears every once in a while… What if you could go back in time and change that one momentous event which would lead to a different life.

So here is a question to all the readers of my random, mundane and boring blog… What if you could really go back in time and change your response to that one event… Will you do that? Before most of you nod in agreement, ponder over a few things.

Most of the times, we think about going back in time because we are not happy with the way certain events have panned out in our lives. And we wish things could have been different. We focus on ‘what could have been if…’

So bear in mind when you think about what I have asked. If you could go back and change that one thing, there are lot of things you will miss out on and you don’t know how different things would have been… you would have a very different life… it could be happier than what it is right now… or it could be really miserable…. Will you want to take that chance?

I know my answer. I would not want to change a single thing. Sure my life had unpleasant experiences but at the same time, it has given me moments that I will cherish forever. I have met people who have made a difference to my life in a big way. they have made my life worth living and very special. The prospect that if i could go back in time and change the future course of events and lose out on these moments and people, is scary as hell. If anything, I would want to live this life all over again and experience all these things again and again. Would want my Groundhog Day.

So what would you do people? Would be nice to know. I know a lot of you read the blog. All you have to do is tell me.. if you would want to change the course of events or would you be happy with the life you have.

Truly Madly Woo

Voyeurism, catfishing, stalking has come to town in the form of dating apps – trulymadly.com or getwoo.at

Sure there will be a Facebook connect and lot of verification but we will be deluding ourselves that all that was mentioned above will not happen.

My advise to all those who are planning to get on these apps (specifically women), please invest some money and time to read three books (I know this generation doesn’t read anything that goes beyond 140 or is it 160 characters) – “The Blue Nowhere” and “Broken Window” by Jeffrey Deaver and “Scarecrow” by Michael Connelly. Will be worth the investment.

Both the apps claim that they ensure they can keep the peeping toms and creeps out and that itself is a big laugh (Read the recommended books!)

But beyond this, why the sudden interest in these apps. Surely not all the advertising that is probably a result of these ventures getting funding. Have we as individuals lost faith in the real world? Or in this age of instant gratification where love is just a euphemism for lust, we have lost the art of wooing. The anticipation, the longing and the aches have disappeared and everything is about a text, a whatsapp message and pictures. OR (this is probably the biggest reason) the fear of rejection and ignominy gets mitigated when we don’t really know who is swiping us left or right. Online rejection probably is lot easier to handle? After all, in this day and age, these apps allow you to be constantly in play right?

“A space to have real conversations and spark off real relationships” is one of the lines in the premumble for the woo app. Really? Do we now need analytics and a matching engine to find the right one? I sure would be curious to know from people who have been on these apps as to how many relationships really turned real and progressed into something more meaningful.

Let’s get real. Online stuff by its nature itself is not mean to be real. These apps are just a playground and nothing more. Cynical? maybe but in times to come, I am sure we will read stories about relationships gone horribly wrong via these apps just like other matchmaking apps here or anywhere in the world.

Anonymity and the ability to create a persona on these apps is just like playing MMORPG (Multi Player Online Role Playing Games).

Just because there is enough PR generated by the founders of these apps and everyone talking about them, don’t get taken in. Invest time in the real world for a relationship. Will be lot more fulfilling.
